Review: Après Vélo AV Performance Cycle Kit

Apres Velo Performance Cycle Kit
I seem to have developed a love for loud kit. It is a strange development; because I'm not a loud person; far more a guy that wears a blue shirt, than one who wears a Hawaiian flower-splash one! The new-found interest has led me to look for new and interesting designs though; and it wasn't long before I eyed up the new AV Performance range, from Australian brand Après Vélo.

Après Vélo are probably better known to blog readers as a casual clothing brand; as it is their tees that I have previously reviewed here on the blog. The new AV Performance range, is the brand's diversification into on-the-bike wear though; and it is as loud, and as interesting, as some of their great cycling inspired t-shirts!

AV Performance Short Sleeve Jersey

Apres Velo Performance Cycling Jersey
First up, the race-cut Performance Jersey, from Après Vélo. This is a short sleeve, full-length zipper, modern fast-dry fabric cycling jersey. The fit is great, and much like other Italian made jerseys. The fabric is robust, yet breathable; while the zippers and grippers are of great quality, too.

However its real USP, is its design - Zebra Stripes! Après Vélo say you've got to "earn your stripes" to wear this kit; I'd tend to agree - you'll need to 'ride like you're being chased'!

A great design, fit and fabric; with a unique limited edition appeal.

AV Performance Bib Shorts

To complement the Performance Jersey, I've also been riding in the new AV Performance bib shorts from Après Vélo. These are a classic pair of bibs; with a smooth look and feel, thanks to the flat-locked seams and wide material compression leg bands.

The design matches in perfectly with the jersey; it is certainly louder than most Lycra shorts, with its Zebra striped gripper on the left leg. The chamois has proven to be super comfortable, and it has kept me happy for up to six hours in the saddle.

These are a great fitting, supportive, and well made pair of riding shorts.

AV Performance Cycling Socks and Cap

Finally, the all important accessories - to finish off the "earn your stripes" kit. The casquette is a classic cotton cycling cap; but with a modern Zebra theme. The socks, are a "Euro-worthy" high-cut compression fit - adding the final touch of panaché to the apparel.

The Après Vélo AV Performance Wear range also extends out into some very cool looking limited edition Zebra stripe riding shoes, made by Lake. Then, to complement these, there are a smart pair of overshoe booties. I wasn't able to test these out in person, but they look ace!

So, if you're looking for LOUD, then you'll find it here! The Après Vélo Performance kit is made for those that ride with confidence. If you reckon you've earned your stripes, and you've got a race-fit physique to show for it, then this would be a great addition to any riding wardrobe!

N.B. on sizes tested: Medium jersey and shorts - my measurements are listed on the Reviews tab. Sizing seems similar to other Italian brands such as Castelli or Sportful.
